BIDDEFORD

A FOOD AND WINTER CLOTHING drive sponsored by the Southern Maine Medical Center in September yielded 85 boxes of clothing and 110 bags of non-perishable food. Those goods will be donated to the Salvation Army, York County Food Rescue, Bon App?t Meal Program, Stone Soup Food Pantry and the food pantries of Biddeford, Saco and Old Orchard Beach. Community members also donated $840 to support those agencies’ efforts. Volk Packaging donated all the needed boxes to package and transport the items to the above organizations for distribution.

Sisters of Mercy recently honored some nuns with a collective 560 years of service to the order. Family and friends honored them at the Italian Heritage Center, Portland, after a special Mass. SOUTH PORTLAND

SOUTH PORT Marine recently helped Sea Scout Ship 12 put a sailboat back into seaworthy condition. The Scouts’ boat, an 18-foot Buccaneer, had been deteriorating, is owned by the Pine Tree Boy Scout Council and is now used by the unit.

WOLFE’S NECK FARM is offering pumpkin hayrides hourly from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday throughout October. A tractor ride along the shore to the farm’s pumpkin patch costs $5 a person or $20 per family. For more information, call 865-4469.

THE LIBBY-MITCHELL American Legion Post 76 baseball team is holding a contest to design new uniforms for the 2011 season. PORTLAND

THE CHEVERUS High School Music Department has added a piano lab course to its musical program. Comprised of 12 Yamaha keyboards, the semester class will accommodate 24 students a year. Music director Chris Humphrey said students were already playing a variety of songs on the piano at the end of the third week of classes.

SANFORD

GOODALL HOSPITAL recently received a donation of toys from The Toymakers of Bangor, makers of handmade wooden cars and trucks for children who are hospitalized, homeless, living in shelters or whose parents are absent due to military deployment or imprisonment.

Goodall also received a donation from the Fisette family of Teddy bears valued at more than $400. Earlier this year, Goodall pediatric patients were the recipeints of toys donated by toy manufactorer Hasbro.

BUXTON

BONNY EAGLE High School alumni Rebecca Cerino-Cousins, ’01, Mikki Wiechman ’04, and Matt O’Donnell, ’05, were inducted into the school’s sports Hall of Fame recently.

Cerino-Cousins was a four-year varsity starter for the girl’s basketball team, who ended her high school career as the second highest leading scorer in the school’s history.

Wiechman was commended for being the most dominant track and field female from 2002-04. She earned two outdoor and five indoor SMAA titles as well as five state championships in shot put and two in discus throwing.

O’Donnell, a starter in football, basketball and baseball, was lauded for his football prowess and leading Bonny Eagle High School to its first of four state titles in the 2000s.
