PORTLAND — Rep. Sean Flaherty was ordered to pay a $500 fine and had his license suspended for 90 days after pleading guilty Friday to drunk driving. State Police said he had a blood alcohol content of .16, twice the legal limit to drive.
Cumberland Coounty records show that Flaherty pled guilty to operating under the influence of alcohol on Aug. 8 on Interstate 295 in Freeport just before 2 a.m. Allegations that he had more than .15 grams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood, which requires a mandatory 48 hours in jail, were dropped.
Flaherty, 25, announced his guilty plea in a press release Friday, conceding that he had made a “stupid mistake” and was working hard to earn a second chance. He is running for re-election in November against Republican Amy Volk.
Flaherty crashed into a guardrail and then rolled over. He was not seriously hurt.
