NEWPORT, Wales — Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker have won their second match of The Ryder Cup, giving the United States a 6-4 lead after the second session.
Woods and Stricker routed Europe’s Miguel Angel Jimenez and Peter Hanson 4-and-3 in alternate shot today to improve their record as a team to 6-0, including last year’s Presidents Cup.
The U.S. gained another point when Stewart Cink rolled in a 30-foot birdie at the 17th, then stuck a wedge safely on the 18th green to ensure par for a 2-up win over Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell.
It was a miserable finish for the 21-year-old McIlroy. He missed a 6-footer at the 17th after Cink’s long birdie, then hit an easy wedge into the bunker at the final hole to guarantee the Americans’ win.
