A 15-year-old Charleston boy suffered a gunshot wound to the hand about 1:30 p.m. today while bird hunting with three people in Charleston, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

The incident occurred after three of the hunters had leaned their shotguns against a truck parked on Ridge Road in Charleston, according to IFW.

One shotgun tipped over, knocking over another shotgun. The teenager lunged to catch the gun, and it went off as he grabbed the end of the barrel, according to Game Warden Sgt. Christopher Simmons.

The boy was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
