GRAY – Gray-New Gloucester scored twice in the second half and held on to hand Cape Elizabeth its first loss of the season with a 2-1 victory Thursday night in a Western Maine Conference boys’ soccer game.
Jack Martell scored on a penalty kick six minutes into the second half to give the Patriots (6-4) a 1-0 lead after Craig Moreau was taken down from behind while on a breakaway.
Ian Martell scored on a header with 5:40 left off a weak-side cross from Tyler Holmquist to make it 2-0.
Tim Takach scored for the Capers (7-1-1) with 30 seconds left to spoil the shutout bid.
Gray-New Gloucester keeper Ryan Cavallaro finished with seven saves, and Cape’s Nick Breed turned back five shots.
CHEVERUS 5, KENNEBUNK 1: Eliot Maker scored two goals to help Cheverus (6-2-1) win at Kennebunk (5-2-1).
Alexander Hoglund had a goal and an assist for the Stags and Peter Potthoff had six saves.
Josh Prevatt scored for the Rams.
MARSHWOOD 3, BONNY EAGLE 1: T.J. Osborne had two goals as Marshwood (7-2) got past Bonny Eagle (4-3-2) at South Berwick.
Tyler Hickey opened the scoring for the Hawks just 2:23 into the match, and Osborne made it 2-0 early in the second.
The Scots pulled within 2-1 in the 69th minute on a goal by Ryan Jordan.
SANFORD 3, MASSABESIC 2: Robbie Dudzisz scored with 1:30 left in the second overtime to give Sanford (3-5) a win over Massabesic (1-8) at Waterboro.
Sanford took a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals from Jimmie Chaisson and Phil Vo. Hunter Duncan tied it with two goals midway through the second.
DEERING 2, BIDDEFORD 0: Charlie Dupee had a goal and an assist as Deering (2-6-1) shut out Biddeford (0-9) at Portland.
Dupee sent a through pass to Billy Farrell for the Rams’ first goal 1:22 into the match, then added a goal with 16:15 to play.
FALMOUTH 4, FREEPORT 0: Sam White scored three goals to lead the Yachtsmen (6-2) over the Falcons (2-7-1) at Freeport.
PORTLAND 4, WESTBROOK 1: Tim Rovnak had three goals to lead Portland (7-1-1) past visiting Westbrook (2-5-1).
Fazal Nabi added a goal for the Bulldogs, and Andrew Sousa scored for the Blue Blazes.
GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 9, A.R. GOULD 2: Anthony Simpson had five goals to lead the Lions (4-3) to a victory over the Bears (2-3) at South Portland.
Tyler Cann had 14 saves for A.R. Gould.
SCARBOROUGH 9, NOBLE 0: Brett Leighton scored three goals and the Red Storm (7-1) raced to a 6-0 halftime lead against the Knights (2-5-1) at North Berwick.
Peter Moore earned the shutout with three saves.
POLAND 1, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Colin Dudley scored in the 22nd minute as Poland (3-5) beat Sacopee Valley (5-3-2) at South Hiram.
MORSE 5, EDWARD LITTLE 1: Eric Trautman-Mosher scored three goals as Morse (5-3) downed Edward Little at Bath.
