GORHAM – Some familiar names won’t be on the ballot as Gorham voters choose candidates to serve on the Town Council and School Committee on Nov. 2.
The Town Council has three seats available and five candidates have submitted nomination papers. The School Committee has two available seats and both incumbents are running. All are three-year terms.
But, Town Council veterans Burleigh Loveitt and Phil Csoros are not seeking re-election. After serving multiple terms over decades, Loveitt, 63, is stepping down. And Csoros, 44, who attended his final Town Council meeting earlier this month, is moving out of town.
Those who have filed nomination papers for the Town Council include incumbent Matt Robinson, Phil Gagnon Jr., Charles Haws, John Pressey and Ronald Smith.
For the School Committee, incumbents Roger Marchand, vice chairman, and Kyle Currier have filed papers.
A commercial airline pilot, Csoros announced Sept. 7 that he was not running and was hunting for a house in Texas.
“It’s a fantastic community we live in,” Csoros said praising Gorham.
Serving one term, Csoros was elected in 2007. “I’ve been honored and humbled,” Csoros said,
Csoros, who thanked Town Manager David Cole and other town officials, was presented a plaque by Town Council Chairman Mike Phinney.
The deadline for filing nomination papers for Gorham’s municipal election was Monday.
