WELLS – Two teenagers died in a single-car accident shortly after midnight this morning, police said.
The accident occurred at about 12:40 a.m. on Tatnic Road, police said. A Ford Taurus, driven by Christian Lumenello, 16, of Ogunquit, was headed east, apparently at high speed, police said. When the car went over a small knoll, it became airborne and Lumenello apparently lost control when it came back down.
The car slid sideways into a tree, pinning Lumenello and his passenger, Austin Dykes, 15, of Wells, in the car.
Police said Dykes died at the scene and Lumenello was taken by life flight to Maine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 3 a.m.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
