FREEPORT – Olivia Bubar, Jenny Breau, Katie Turner and Carissa Lavers scored Wednesday as Freeport opened the high school field hockey season with a 4-0 victory against Traip Academy in a Western Maine Conference game.
Emily Daniel stopped nine shots for the win. Alyssa Lawrence made five saves for Traip.
WELLS 2, FALMOUTH 1: Ashley Mulkern and Kaylar Masellas scored for the Warriors, who held on at Falmouth.
Courtney Proctor scored with 6:39 left for Falmouth, which had a quality chance in the final minute, but a crossing pass was misdirected.
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 3, LAKE REGION 0: Maddy Smith, Sage Hennessy and Kendra Fox scored for the Raiders at Fryeburg.
Hennessy, Christina DiPietro and Bailey Frost each earned an assist, and Brittany Fox stopped one shot for the win.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 5, POLAND 1: The Seagulls broke it open with three unanswered goals in the second half to beat the Knights at Poland.
Emily Brooker, Carissa Erickson and Daphne Allen each had a second-half goal. Allen and Taylor Mezoian finished with two assists.
Zoe Lafrance-Armstrong and Jamie Crowley scored in the first half for Old Orchard. Heidi Chapman answered for Poland.
YORK 5, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Catie Keenan, Becca Sarson, Cari Posternak, Hannah Keating and Liz Fiorentino scored for the Wildcats at York.
Kellie Sanborn answered for Gray-New Gloucester with 17 seconds remaining.
