WESTBROOK – Football season has already begun as the Westbrook, Bonny Eagle and Gorham high school football teams have started preseason scrimmages, and the rest of the sports aren’t all that far behind.

Westbrook got their first taste of action on Monday afternoon when they scrimmaged Biddeford at Olmsted Field. Westbrook will be on the road this Friday night as they will be going to Noble to get in one last practice game before the regular season begins.

The Blazes open the season at home against Bonny Eagle on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. and will host South Portland the following week.

Gorham was also in action on the gridiron this week as they faced Noble in a scrimmage on Monday. The Rams will get a look at the Biddeford Tigers on Friday when they head down to Waterhouse Field for a 7 p.m. preseason game.

Gorham will begin the regular season with a Sept. 4 game at Cheverus. The Rams return home on Sept. 10 for a 7 p.m. game against Deering.

Bonny Eagle scrimmaged against Kennebunk on Monday and will continue to get ready for the season opener at Westbrook in the coming weeks. After the game against Westbrook on Sept. 3, the Scots will host Portland in the 2010 home opener on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.

The Westbrook field hockey team has two more scrimmages scheduled before getting the regular season started with a Sept. 2 game at Massabesic. The Blazes will travel to Brunswick on Aug. 28 to face the Dragons in a 10 a.m. contest and will be at Yarmouth on Aug. 30 for a 4 p.m. game.

The Westbrook boys and girls soccer teams are both hosting events at the high school on Saturday. The girls Westbrook Invitational will be on the high school’s upper fields all day, while the boys are scheduled to play at Olmsted Field against a variety of opponents. The boys soccer team will also hold another round robin series of preseason games on Olmsted Field on Aug. 31 as they get ready for the season opener at home against South Portland on Sept. 4 at 11 a.m.

While the Gorham High School calendar doesn’t list any preseason events other than the football game on Friday, there is some early regular season action on the docket for Gorham next week.

The Rams’ field hockey team will open its season at Bonny Eagle on Sept. 2 at 3:30 p.m. Additionally, the Gorham golf team will head to the Links at Outlook to take on Noble in the first match of the season that same day, also at 3:30 p.m. The Gorham girls soccer team will play its first game of the season the next day, hosting Cheverus on Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. The boys soccer team will host Cheverus in its season opener on Sept. 4 at 6 p.m.
