SOUTH PORTLAND—Gayton Post rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth for the second time in three days to eke out a 17-16 win Sunday against Augusta Post 205 to capture its first American Legion baseball state championship.
Gayton Post, made up primarily of players from Lewiston High School, went 5-1 in the eight-team, double elimination tournament held at the athletic complex at Wainwright Farms.
Earlier Sunday, Jordan Conant slugged two three-run homers to propel Augusta, which went 5-2, to a 13-7 win to set up the championship showdown.

SOUTH PORTLAND — Jordan Conant hit a pair of three-run homers and Charlie Partridge hit a three-run homer as Augusta 205 beat Gayton Post 13-6 today to force a deciding game in the American Leagion state championships at Wainwright Sports Complex.
The deciding game is scheduled to start at 3:30 today.
Gayton had won its first four games of the tournament.
