SANFORD ”“ If Sanford Mainers hurler Dustin Ramey wasn’t in possession of his full pitch assortment, Friday, you’d never know it.

Not the way he manhandled the Holyoke Blue Sox for the first six innings of the Mainers’ 8-0 rout, before 422 at Goodall Park, Friday.

Ramey allowed just two hits and a walk, while extending his scoreless streak to 13 innings.

Not bad for a guy who fought a night long losing battle to find his fastball.

“I didn’t really have my good stuff,” said Ramey, who earned NECBL Co-Pitcher of the Week honors for    the seven shutout innings he threw against Lowell on July 2, “but it’s always easy when you get runs. When you get runs early, it’s always easy to throw.”

Ramey received all the run support he needed in the first inning, when the Mainers grabbed a 1-0 lead.

Matt Marra legged out a one out single, and eventually scored on Mike Roth’s sacrifice fly.

Sanford scored twice more in the second, and with a three run cushion to work with, Ramey was already fully locked in.

“I think one thing that Dusty’s been working on,” said catcher Tyler DiPrato, “is getting ahead early, and keeping his fastball low. The first inning, he was up a little bit. But I reminded him to keep his elbow low, and from that point on, he was throwing low strikes. And he was locating his off-speed, which was big for him.”

Ramey struck out just one batter, but threw a slew of first pitch strikes at the Blue Sox.

In all, he retired 18 of the 21 men he faced, including the last eight.

“On days when you don’t have your good stuff,” said Ramey, “you just try to throw strikes, and see what happens. My game is to throw my two-seamer and let them try to hit it.”

He did, and they didn’t.

CHIN MUSIC: Roth, fresh off a triumphant run through the College World Series with his South Carolina teammates, was in the designated hitter spot. Roth, who was strictly a pitcher this season with the Gamecocks, is having to get back up to speed at the plate. “We’re trying to make sure he doesn’t do too much, too early,” said Izaryk. “He hasn’t really hit since last summer (with the Mainers). He’ll come to see how good he can be if he lets the game come to him.” ”¦ Roth missed on home run opportunities twice. One ball down the right field line had the distance but curved foul. The other, to right center, died on the warning track ”¦ Sanford benefited from five Holyoke errors. The Mainers didn’t commit any. ”¦ The Mainers will continue their busy weekend with a pair of road games, at North Shore (tonight), and Vermont (Sunday). RHP Michael Augliera (3-0, 3.09) will get the start against North Shore, one of two teams (along with Newport) that the Mainers are battling for the East Division lead.
