FREEPORT — Patrick Tarpy of Yarmouth lopped more than a minute off the course record as he won the 33rd annual L.L. Bean 10K Road Race this morning.

A graduate of Yarmouth High and Brown University, the 28-year-old Tarpy crossed the finish line on Main Street in 30 minutes, 51 seconds under sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s. Ryan Woods set the old mark of 32:01 last year.

Runner-up Josh Zolla of Freeport finished more than two minutes behind Tarpy, in 33:05.

Freeport’s most notable resident, Joan Benoit Samuelson, 53, won the women’s race in 38:25, good for 21st overall among more than 1,100 runners, the largest field in race history.
