MONMOUTH — Two local men were arrested on marijuana cultivation charges after police searched their Bonin Road home and found 180 marijuana plants.

Robert G. Bailey, 47, and Timothy D. Lemaire, 48, both of Monmouth, were arrested at the 99 Bonin Road home they shared and taken to Kennebec County jail, according to Kennebec County Sheriff Randall Liberty.

Bail for each was set at $15,000 cash or $150,000 surety. Liberty said Friday morning neither had made bail and both were scheduled for arraignment, by video, Friday afternoon.

Deputies from the sheriff’s office, officers from Monmouth Police and agents from the federal and state Drug Enforcement Agencies executed a search warrant at the residence around 11 a.m. Thursday.

Liberty said information from concerned citizens prompted the investigation.

Upon entering the house, he said, police located an indoor marijuana growing operation, with approximately 180 plants at various stages of growth. Liberty said 40 of the plants were mature and ready for harvest. Another 20 of the plants had been moved outside, in the woods about 30 yards from the residence.

Police seized the plants and about a half-pound of processed marijuana. Liberty estimated the value of the marijiana at $75,000.

Also seized was indoor growing equipment including lights, soil, fertilizer, fans, two electrical generators and packaging material.
