FALMOUTH — Nick Whittaker pitched a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk, and Yarmouth scored five runs in the seventh inning to defeat Falmouth 5-2 in a Western Maine Conference baseball game Wednesday.
Falmouth (7-6) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. But in the seventh, Luke Pierce led off with a single for the Clippers (13-1) and later scored on a single by Campbell Haley. Reed Wommack added a two-run single with the bases loaded and a third scored on an error on the play.
Mitch Beaulieu of Falmouth gave up nine hits and three earned runs. He struck out five and walked one.
WELLS 8, FREEPORT 6: Paul McDonough had three hits and three RBI to lead the Warriors (5-9) over Freeport (3-11) at Wells.
The Falcons took a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning, but Wells countered with a five-run bottom of the inning. Doug McLean provided an RBI double and McDonough doubled in two.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 2, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 1: Dean Darien pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and three walks as the Panthers won at Yarmouth.
Jordan Haskell hit a two-out double in the seventh inning to win it.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 2, POLAND 1: Ryan Cavallaro hit a two-out double in the 12th inning to lift the Patriots (8-7) over Poland (2-12) at Gray.
Heath Martel scored the winning run after reaching on a single. Martel also led off the sixth with a single and later scored on a throwing error to make it 1-1.
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 7, LAKE REGION 3: Conor Tweedie had two singles, a double, two RBI and two runs as the Raiders (6-8) downed the Lakers (6-8) at Fryeburg.
Brady Lloyd added a single and a double for Fryeburg.
Freshman Andrew Rasco of the Raiders struck out six.
MEDOMAK VALLEY 4, ROCKLAND 3: Steve Genthner and Taylor Williamson scored the tying and go-ahead runs on an error in the fifth inning, and the Panthers (7-7) went on to edge the Tigers (5-9) at Waldoboro.
Genthner also tripled and scored in the first, and reached on an error, stole second and scored on a double by Dillon Reed in the third.
GREELY 8, TRAIP ACADEMY 1: Matt Labbe, who had two doubles and a single, drove in three runs and scored another to pace the Rangers (10-4) over Traip Academy (7-5) at Old Orchard Beach.
Ben Shain added two hits, two RBI and three runs for Greely.
CAPE ELIZABETH 16, YORK 5: Tanner Garrity hit a grand slam during a seven-run fifth inning as the Capers (13-1) beat the Wildcats (8-6) in five innings at York.
Cam Brown and Conor Maloney each had three hits for the Capers, who also scored seven runs in the third. Garrity, Will Pierce and Kyle Danielson had two apiece.
LACROSS
THORNTON ACADEMY 10, WINDHAM 6: Tim Gross and Chris Dolewa scored three goals each as Thornton Academy (5-6) downed Windham (6-5) at Saco.
Tom Allain had 10 saves for Thornton.
DEERING 9, GORHAM 8: Matt Thomes and Isaac Wipfler finished with two goals and two assists each as Deering won at Gorham.
Gorham, which trailed 3-0 early in the game, led 8-7 to start the fourth quarter before Deering came back.
BRUNSWICK 10, MESSALONSKEE 4: Sam Franco had three goals and one assist, and Zach McMillan added two goals and two assists as the Dragons (9-2) defeated the Eagles (8-3) at Brunswick.
Jeremy Diaz made 10 saves for Brunswick. Cody Zigenfus had three goals for Messalonskee.
SOUTH PORTLAND 9, BONNY EAGLE 8: Adam Burpee had three goals and Harrison Keithly got the winner with 2:47 left as the Red Riots (10-1) beat the Scots (4-7) at Standish.
Chris Smith had two goals and Ronnie Brulotte stopped 17 shots for Bonny Eagle.
SCARBOROUGH 6, MASSABESIC 2: Peter Moore and Jon Blaisdell each had three goals and one assist for the Red Storm (7-4) against the Mustangs (5-6) at Scarborough.
Nick Nuegebaur added two goals for Scarborough.
PORTLAND 20, WESTBROOK 5: Caleb Kenney had five goals and four assists, and Seamus Kilbride added four goals and one assist for the Bulldogs (11-0), who took a 13-1 lead and beat the Blue Blazes (3-8) at Portland.
Dane Tupper had two goals and an assist for Westbrook.
KENNEBUNK 19, NOBLE 2: Bobby Kramer had four goals, Sean Foley and Ryan Ross had three, and Blake Dowe added two as the Rams (7-4) handled the Knights (0-12) at Kennebunk.
Cam Morrison scored his first varsity goal for the Rams.
