Girl Scout open houses 

Girl Scouts of Maine will host open houses from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Camp Kirkwold in Readfield and Camp Pondicherry in Bridgton. 

Families are invited to walk the grounds, meet some of the camp staff and learn about Girl Scouts of Maine’s traditional, skills-building camp programs. Fiddlehead Center school 

Fiddlehead Center for the Arts and Sciences is offering an Independent Kindergarten program this fall as an extension of their preschool program.

Concert with WWII music 

Thornton Academy will celebrate World War II veterans with a “Jazz a la Mode: Red, White and Blues” at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Atkinson Dining Commons, 438 Main St. 

The first half of the concert will be dedicated to the music of the 1940s, featuring the works of Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Jerome Kern and Rodgers and Hammerstein. Pie a la mode will be served along with a beverage. 

The second portion of the program is dedicated to graduating seniors in the school’s band program and will feature the music or Henry Mancini, Josef Zawinul and Miles Davis. Admission is $5 for students and seniors and $7 for adults. Veterans are invited to attend free of charge.

Coyote program at library 

Conservation Biologist Geri Vistein, with the nationwide program Project Coyote, will present a talk titled “Coyote: America’s Songdog” at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Camden Public Library, at 55 Main St. The talk is free and open to the public. For more details, call 236-3440.

‘Write Quick’ authors to talk 

Bethel Historical Society will begins its 2010 Lecture Series “Vignettes of the Maine Past,” with a talk by Bethel native Roberta Gibson Pevear and Ann Chandonnet of Vale, N.C., at 6:30 p.m. today in the Dr. Moses Mason House exhibit hall.
