Yard cleanup to benefit
SPHS boys lacrosse

SOUTH PORTLAND — The South Portland High School boys lacrosse team on Sunday, April 25 will be holding their annual spring yard cleanup fundraiser.

The teams will come and clean up and dispose of leaves and other yard waste for a cost of $75 for an average-sized yard.

Additionally, the teams will be selling bags of Scotts Deep Forest Brown Mulch for $4 per 2 cu. ft. bag.

Cape schools host annual
Arts Night April 29

CAPE ELIZABETH — Cape Elizabeth Middle School and Pond Cove Elementary School will be hosting the fourth annual Arts Night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 29 to showcase student artwork.

Community members are invited to both schools to view student artwork and listen to musical performances.

Other highlights to the event include a Young Artists Bazaar, which will feature artwork for sale created by students in grades 1-12.

Additionally, a conference room mural completed by the eighth grade students will be unveiled. The mural is based on an interpretation of a photograph by Cape resident and photographer Jack Kennealy and funded by the Cape Elizabeth Education Foundation.

Felt wins first place
in essay contest

SCARBOROUGH — Stephanie Felt, a ninth grade student at Scarborough High School, recently won first place in the Voice of Democracy essay contest sponsored by VFW Post 832 of South Portland.

She was presented with a $200 check from District 10 Commander Ed Nadeau and the ladies president, Stacy Martin.

Felt’s essay also took third place at the Department of Maine level,  and she was awarded a $500 savings bond.
