Cancer buddy program
The Cancer Community Center is offering a Maine Buddy training session from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the center, 778 Main St.
This program is for cancer survivors and co-survivors, those who are spouses, parents, family members and friends who have supported someone through their cancer journey. Meditation instruction
Willa Miller, a lama in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and author of “Everyday Dharma, Seven Weeks to Finding the Buddha in You,” will teach a meditation session from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Portland Harbor Hotel, 468 Fore St.

Cuban medical school talk
Dr. Lillian Holloway will talk about the Latin American School of Medicine, in Havana, Cuba, at 6:30 p.m. today at the Glickman Library at the University of Southern Maine.
Holloway is a graduate of the school.
To study there, one needs to have graduated from college, be under age 30 and be committed to serving the underserved as a physician.

Class in creating 3-D art
Melinda Campbell will conduct a special art class for children to create their own special 3-D artwork.
The class, starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, will feature the depiction of celestial objects in a way that they appear three-dimensional.

Duo to sing at library
The Thomas Memorial Library is hosting singing duo Simons and Goodwin for a concert at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The free concert, celebrating National Library Week, features Bob Simons and Renee Goodwin. The duo covers all forms of American music from soft rock to country, blues and pop standards.

Babysitting, lifeguard classes
Saint Joseph’s College is offering two community courses this week.
The first is an American Red Cross baby sitter course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It includes CPR certification, basic care, safety and play for children up to 10 years old. Participants must be at least 11 years old. Fee is $45.
The second is a four-day lifeguard training program from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through April 22. Successful completion of this course establishes certification in life guarding, first aid and CPR/AED for lifeguards. The minimum age is 15 and participants must pass an advanced swimming test. The course cost is $350.

Grief support group opens
VNA Home Health & Hospice is offering a six-week grief support group starting Tuesday.
The group will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through May 25 at the North Windham Union Church, 723 Roosevelt Trail. There is no charge for the support group, but participants are asked to attend all six sessions led by experienced group facilitators. For more information, call 400-8714.

Rescue Team bake sale
The Homeless Animal Rescue Team is holding a bake goods and craft sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Walmart in Falmouth.
