Coach: Jim Cronin

Last year’s record: 12 – 4 regular season, beat Bonny Eagle in playoff quarterfinal, beat South Portland in playoff semifinal, lost to Deering in Western Maine final. Final record 14 – 5

Key players: Seniors Brendan Sullivan– IF/OF(captain); Jake Rutt – C, (captain); Andrew Myers – P and Blake Brubach – OF

Key games this season: “They are all key games,” Cronin said. “You can’t take a day off in this league, but Westbrook, Deering, South Portland and Bonny Eagle are games we have our eye on.”

Season outlook: After making a run deep into the playoffs last season, Cronin wants to see the Red Storm go even further this season. “We had our most successful season ever last year and we hope to battle for one of the top spots again this season,” he said. “We lost some key players in Chris Bernard, Ian Ramsdell and Neil Ravin, but we have more guys that should be ready to go. Although we lost the pitcher of the year, we have some young arms that should be able to pick up some of those wins. Sophomores Ben Wessel and Joe Cronin should be ready to join senior Andrew Myers in the starting rotation. “

While Scarborough did suffer some losses due to graduation, Cronin is happy with the players he has returning to the team this season. “We lost some big bats and that will be one of the areas we will focus on this preseason, but we are thrilled to have seniors Jake Rutt and Brendan Sullivan back for another season,” he said. “We will be relying on them to lead the team and drive the offense with fellow senior Blake Brubach.”

Cronin added that he has been working on improving Scarborough’s defense this spring and the work is paying dividends. “Our biggest improvement the last three years has been on defense with last year being our best,” he said. “We feel like we have the players to continue that trend and be even better this season. We will be strong up the middle with Rutt behind the plate, Sullivan and Cronin in the middle infield and a combination of senior Brubach and speedy junior Kevin Philbrick in centerfield. Overall, we feel that we have some top of the league seniors who will provide leadership for some up strong underclassmen to give us another successful season. The guys take the game seriously and want to win. That’s always a good way to start.”

Key Players: Nick Prince (senior-D), Sam Parenteau (senior- D), Nick Neugebauer (senior- M), Tennessee Peters (senior- M), Matt Mayo (senior- A)

Season outlook: After graduating a large class of both starters and roll players,

Scarborough will be looking for many players to step up and fill those holes, Hezlep said.

Scarborough returns only one starter at attack (Matt Mayo), middie (Peter Moore) and

defense (Nick Prince). On stack, sophomore John Blaisdell and junior Tyler Strout have played very well in preseason.

Senior Nick “Nugget” Neugebauer moves from the defensive midfield to offensive middie after a lot of improvement in the offseason, the coach said. Standout soccer goalie Tennessee Peters has shown tremendous leadership and will look to play a big role in the offense. On defense, in addition to Nick Prince, fellow seniors Sam Parenteau, Taylor Bernier, Pat Damicis and defensive middies Glen Googins, Justin Alper and newcomer Timmy McHugh will look to lead a group short on experience, but with enough talent to make up for it. Underclassmen Andrew Jones, Mark Pearson and Jack Stasko will also look to add depth. In the net, Scarborough has four goalies in the junior and senior class.
