Remember our veterans

Windham veterans Art Stevenson and Harry Lang are at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. Art is in Room B-28, Harry is C-22. Charlie Libby, another Windham veteran is residing at Portland Center for Assisted Living, 69 Devonshire St., (Suite 2, Room 117-B), Portland 04103. Cards, letters, visitors would be welcome! Let’s not forget these men who served their country.

Bob Marley show

Bob Marley will perform at the high school auditorium on April 18. Tickets are $15 and proceeds will be split 50/50 between Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors and Camp Sunshine. Tickets are available at a variety of places in Windham and Norma Rogers of the WNHN group has some – call 892-5608.

Cancer support group meets

The Windham Cancer Support Group meets on the last Monday of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Windham Public Library, 217 Windham Center Road. The group’s mission is to provide support and education for all cancer victims, cancer survivors, and caregivers of anyone dealing with cancer. The group provides a relaxed and enjoyable meeting atmosphere for anyone dealing with cancer in any of its forms. Changes to food pantry

With the change in season, the Food Pantry will no longer be open on Thursday morning for seniors until October. Seniors may come on Monday night.

The Clothes Closet will increase its hours to include Monday night 5:30-7 the first Monday night of the month only and remain open each Friday as usual from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for the convenience of clients.

The beat goes on!

MaineHealth is planning a series of educational classes regarding heart failure and how to manage living well with heart issues. There are five weekly classes to be held from 1:30-3 p.m. Tuesdays, April 27 through May 25, at the MaineHealth Learning Resource Center on Buckman Road in Falmouth (across from the fire station). The cost is $5 per person and you may invite a family member or friend to come with you. Topics covered include self-management skills, managing stress, medications, eating well and exercising. Senior resources in Windham

The lack of public transportation is a big problem for many senior citizens in Windham. Some use Regional Transportation, some take a taxi, some use other commercial resources or depend on friends and relatives. The Friday Senior Van may be the answer. The cost is $3 for the trip. Seniors can be picked up at home, taken to Wal-Mart, Shaw’s, Hannaford or other grocery stores to pick up prescriptions and food. Every Friday morning Sherri Holtan operates the van. Please call a day ahead of time to make a reservation – 892-1905 and leave a message.

High school alumni

Did you attend Windham High School? As a member of the alumni, you may be interested in joining the Windham High School Alumni Association, the oldest organization in Windham. Formed in the early 1920s, the group continues to meet and plans a banquet each May, in addition to providing scholarships and support for the high school. Grief support group

VNA Home Health & Hospice is offering a six-week grief support group in Windham starting April 20 at the North Windham Union Church. The group will be held Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. starting April 20 and ending May 25. You must call Linda Hopkins at 400-8714 to sign up. This will be a closed group (same group of people meeting for the six sessions) led by experienced group facilitators. There is no charge. Get some exercise!

A new Agewell Exercise Program will be held on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. every other week, starting April 8 at Unity Gardens senior housing, 124 Tandberg Trail. The program consists of exercises for fall prevention and runs through August. Sponsored by Southern Maine Agency on Aging, all are welcome. Help yourself stay healthy and upright! Need space to dance?

The Windham Veterans Center (in back of the Windham Mall) has a beautiful facility available to rent for a variety of functions including parties, banquets, receptions, graduation parties, reunions, workshops, auctions, and more. Plenty of parking, kitchen facilities, tables and chairs are all here. Space is available for 200 people. Annual yard sale

Madeline Roberts has started planning for the 4th Annual Yard Sale on May 8 to benefit the Food Pantry. They need donations of small appliances, kids games and puzzles, dish sets, cooking dishes, small furniture items, lamps — just anything a family can pick up at little cost. This will help raise money for the pantry. Donations will be accepted through April 30.
