April vacation camp

During April vacation week, Tuesday, April 20, through Friday, April 23, Gray Recreation Department and Fiddlehead Center for the Arts will be partnering to provide enrichment classes in the morning and in the afternoon and four different field trips for children ages 6 to 13 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Gray-New Gloucester Middle School. Early drop-off (7 a.m.) and late pick-up (5:30 p.m.) will be available if necessary.

Summer Day Camp in Gray will begin taking registrations Wednesday and Thursday, April 7 and 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Newbegin Rec Room.

Mad about science

Mad Science held at Russell School, Gray, System #3 will include fun topics such as CHE-mystery, Current Events, FUN-damental Forces and more. Classes will start April 8 and end May 20 and will be held from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. in the Cafe?. To register, go to madscience.org or call 1-800-586-5231.

Saturday night supper

Take a break from all that holiday prep and head over to the American Legion Post #86 Auxiliary’s public supper from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 15 Lewiston Road in Gray on Saturday April 3. The menu includes beans, chop suey, cole slaw, hot dogs, breads and desserts. $7/adults, $2.50/children under 12. All children under 5 eat for free. Reserve your place in history!

The town of Gray is giving its residents and businesses a chance to become part of the new town hall and the history of Gray. You can now purchase a personalized, engraved brick paver (4”x 8”) that will be included in the “Memory Walk” leading up to the historic, newly renovated Henry Pennell Municipal Complex. You will have a chance to show your friends and family at the re-dedication ceremony celebration on July 24. Bricks can be inscribed with your name or the name of a loved one and will have room for 15 characters per line up to three lines. A limited number of engraved bricks will be sold for a $50 minimum donation to the Pennell Institute Rededication Event. Deadline for orders is May 15. All donations are tax deductible.

Royal Academy moves

Home Education & Family Services and Royal Academy recently moved into more spacious offices at 15 Shaker Road in Gray. Their services include custom designing educational programs, consulting about college and career prep, academic testing, and family issues. Royal Academy is a private K-12 school in which each student’s program is individually designed and monitored. Tutoring, SAT/ACT prep, and small classes are also offered year-round. The bookstore has textbooks, projects and unit studies, college-prep materials, and practical adulthood-prep materials. For more information, call 657-2800 or stop in.

Fall soccer registration

Patriot Soccer Club registration will open on April 1 for the fall soccer season. The club is a classic, competitive soccer league for children ages 8 to 13 (as of Aug 1). The fees remain at $125 for the first child registered, $100 for the second child and $75 for the third child. Please register online only at www.patriotsoccerclub.org. Checks can be mailed to Patriot Soccer Club Registrar at P.O. Box 120, Gray, ME 04039. If you have any questions, contact any member of the board listed on the Web site. Deadline to register is June 1.

The British are coming!

Patriot Soccer Club has teamed up to host a week-long British soccer camp during the week of Aug. 9th -13 at the Patriot Soccer Club fields in Gray. The camp will run Monday through Friday and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s British coaching staff. There are three age groups available and teams are also welcome to attend.

Vacant board seats

In Gray, there is one Town Council seat up for election and a number of MSAD #15 school board seats up for election in June. The Gray Water District also has one five-year term up for grabs.

For placement on the June ballot, an applicant must collect at least 25 signatures of registered Gray voters. Project Graduation fundraiser

The Jen Thayer Band will do a benefit performance for Project Graduation 2010 at Spring Meadows in Gray on April 3 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. This is a 21 and over event.

G-NG Summer Baseball (Babe Ruth and Junior American Legion) Information/Registration Night will be held at the Gray-New Gloucester High School Cafetorium Wednesday, April 7, at 7 p.m.

All 13- to 17-year-old boys and their parents, who are residents of Gray or New Gloucester, are invited to attend. To be eligible for Junior American Legion, players must have been born in 1993, 1994, 1995 or 1996. (Players born in 1991 or 1992, who are interested in playing Senior Legion, please contact Kevin Sullivan.)
