The list of local candidates running for seats in the Maine House of Representatives and Senate was finalized with this week’s deadline for submitting nomination papers.
While the major party candidates’ submission deadline was March 15, non-party candidates have until June 1 to file papers with the Secretary of State’s Office.
The Lakes Region is divided into two Senate Districts and multiple House districts.
For Senate District 12, incumbent Democrat Bill Diamond, of 10 Crown Point Road, Windham, will seek his fourth term as the representative for Windham, Raymond, Casco, Frye Island, Standish and Hollis. Republican Ann-Marie Grenier, of 4 Juniper Drive, Windham, is on the Republican ballot.
In Senate District 13, which comprises Bridgton, Fryeburg, Denmark, Naples, Harrison, Otisfield, Norway, Paris, Oxford, Porter, Brownfield, Hiram and Baldwin, incumbent Republican David Hastings III, of 955 Main St. Fryeburg, has submitted his papers. Democrat Laura Ordway, of 35 Winona Road, Bridgton and a member of the SAD 61 School Board, is on her party’s ballot.
Voters in area towns will also see a full slate of candidates for the various House of Representatives seats. In Windham, Republican Peter Busque, of 14 Outlet Cove Road, is vying for a chance to challenge three-term incumbent Democrat Mark Bryant, of 166 Albion Road, for House District 110. Busque is currently serving a 9-month term on the Windham Town Council, which ends in June.
There may be a three-way race for House District 111 with incumbent Republican Gary Plummer, of 248 Gray Road, seeking a fourth term in the Legislature. Democrat Geoffrey Heckman, of 496 River Road, and Green Independent Angela Jean Webber, of 109 Tandberg Trail, are on their party’s ballot.
In Raymond House District 103, incumbent Republican John Robinson has chosen not to run. Instead, two Republicans will meet in a primary in June. Republican voters will choose between Dana Desjardins, the 9-year veteran of the Raymond Board of Selectmen, and Mike McClellan, the former executive director of the Greater Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce. The primary winner will then face Democrat Leslie Stephenson in November.
In Standish’s House District 102 race, incumbent Democrat Mike Shaw, of 5 Perimeter Ave., could face two challengers: Republican Peter Harring, of 222 Pequawket Trail, and Green Independent Michael Wakefield, of 22 Arthur Drive.
In House District 101, which covers Casco and Naples, incumbent Republican Rich Cebra, of 15 Steamboat Landing in Naples, is on his party’s ballot. Mackenzie Paul Simpson, of 20 Heath Road, Casco, is on the Democratic ballot.
In House District 109 covering Gray and part of North Yarmouth, which was held by the now-term limited Republican, Susan Austin, of Gray, Republican Gary Foster, of Gray, is on the ballot, as is Democrat Anne Graham, of North Yarmouth.
In House District 105, covering New Gloucester, incumbent Democrat David Van Wie, of 292 Town Farm Road, is on the ballot, as is Republican Eleanor Espling, of 12 Lewiston Road.
In House District 98, Democrat Lisa Villa, of Harrison, is on the ballot, as is Republican Paul Waterhouse, of Bridgton.
