I have to admit I am stuck between seasons at the present time and Mother Nature is helping.
I would have never thought that I would kill a mosquito in February in Maine but I did last Friday. It was the very same day my wife was swatting at a yellow jacket buzzing around her face. Go Figure!
Then again, that makes as much sense as the political poop coming out of our nation’s capital, the amount of so-called emergency legislation in Disgusta (once known as Augusta) and the lack of any real discussion by the Windham Town Council, although it was claimed that they had already formed a consensus on how they would be voting. I wonder if that consensus was by e-mail or telephone.
At the same time, the Maine Education Association is paying for ads that want us to call our legislators and tell them not to cut spending.
There is no doubt that Maine has a tremendous financial problem that is compounded by a downturn in our economy, a lack of a large population to be taxed to death and a government that expects the taxpayers to bow to their demands.
A perfect example is the department of education in the state. Although the number of students overall has decreased, the cost of maintaining the education system has skyrocketed and I have no doubt why that is. It’s a one-word term. Fear. And why do I say that? I have never lived in a state where the government uses fear to squeeze the wallets of its citizens like happens in Maine. What’s even worse is that the citizens fall for it and that’s the sad side of living in Maine.
Having worked in government for 20 years I know that the majority of government workers don’t have a clue how to save taxpayer money but they certainly know how to spend it because it’s free government money.
It’s obvious that it’s more than just me that believes the time for change has come. The so-called Tea Party movement is growing by leaps and bounds and I am happy as all get-out that is happening.
Of course, this is a state where the Legislature just passed a law that we can demand that our electricity comes from a “green” or “clean” source. Can you just imagine what the cost would be if every Maine household would demand such a service? Green energy is not cheap and besides, I can only think of one place that I want to see all those wind turbines to be located and that’s in the Maine Legislature. We Mainers face some of the highest electric bills in the country and Goofy, Daffy and the rest of the insane in Disgusta just passed more costs on us.
I do have to admit that I am also suffering from snowplowing disorder. This is a disease caused by government whether it’s local or state. The winter season has seen many snowstorms although most have been minor ones where citizens are wondering why so many trucks are plowing while there is no snow on the roads. Maybe the best explanation is that if the plows create sparks, snow won’t accumulate on the roads in the first place. It’s time to look at the cost of overtime for snowplowing in Windham and the State of Maine and I already know in Windham those figures will prove we need new management.
And to add to the March madness, what about the moronic committee that is discussing the rights of trans-gendered children in our failing school system? Oh, I can just imagine this one. A boy in a girl’s body has to use the boy’s room while a girl in a boy’s body has to use the girl’s room. The same goes for sports. So if a boy thinks he’s a girl, does that mean he gets to shower with the girls? All I can say is that if you parents agree with it, I might be wrong as to where the idiots really are in Maine.
