Planners OK expansion of winery across street

Cellardoor Winery in Lincolnville plans to build a 9,000-square-foot winery and warehouse across the street from its current location.
The Lincolnville Planning Board approved the expansion Wednesday.

The new winery will have a large crush pad, stainless steel tanks, barrel rooms for aging wines, and a climate-controlled warehouse for storage. Christina Peet of Cellardoor said in an announcement about the project that more storage space will allow the winery to age its wines for longer periods and to experiment more with the aging process.

In 2009, Cellardoor produced 6,000 cases of wine. With the new facility, that number will rise to at least 9,000 cases.

The current facility at 367 Youngtown Road will be used for wine making classes.

BRUNSWICK

Breakfast will help group travel to Washington, D.C.

The Brunswick Knights of Columbus will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday to benefit the Woodside One Wheelers, a circus arts group at Topsham’s Woodside Elementary School.

The breakfast will be at the Brunswick Knights of Columbus Hall at 2 Columbus Drive in Brunswick.

Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 2 to 9, and free for children under 2.

The Woodside One Wheelers are trying to raise $15,000 to travel to Washington, D.C., in April, where they will march in the annual Cherry Blossom Festival parade. Other upcoming fundraisers include a chili cook-off with restaurants and amateur cooks at the Woodside School on March 13.

International food fest, will pay for scholarships

If the idea of maki rolls, Brazilian pork churrasco, Norwegian meatballs, lamb gumbo and German spaetzle sounds delicious to you, they can all be had at the sixth International Food Festival and Silent Auction at Southern Maine Community College.

This annual event raises scholarship money for international and multicultural students. The silent auction will begin at 10:30 a.m., and the food festival will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the SMCC Dining Hall overlooking Casco Bay.
