Park volunteers Garry Kasten and wife Janet grab a trail map from a plastic container near the entrance to the Blandings Park Wildlife Sanctuary in Biddeford, which celebrated its grand opening on Monday. The sanctuary is a grassroots 501(c)3 land trust founded in 2006 to preserve and protect the area bounded by Pool Street, West Street, and Guinea Road. Blandings Park was recognized by the State of Maine to be a significant wildlife habitat, home to the endangered Blanding’s turtle and the threatened spotted turtle, as well as an area rich in vernal pools and forest wetlands.
