A Waterford man was sentenced to eight years in prison, with all but three years, suspended, after pleading guilty to a stabbing in Standish last summer.

Jeremy M. Smith, 33, was sentenced Dec. 7 to eight years in prison, with all but three years suspended, after pleading guilty to aggravated assault, a Class B felony. He will serve three years of probation upon release.

The charges stemmed from an incident on Aug. 4 on Ossippee Trail West in Standish, where a 29-year-old man was stabbed, suffering non-life threatening injuries to his hand and upper torso.

Smith fled the scene, only to be found a short time later by Gorham police.
