Scarborough will be hosting a regional preschool H1N1 Flu Vaccination Clinic in cooperation with VNA Home Health & Hospice on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at St. Maximilian Church, 150 Black Point Road, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Due to the limited amount of vaccine available this clinic is only open to children age 6 months – 5 years who have not received their first dose of the H1N1 vaccine yet. The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention does not have enough vaccine to provide the required H1N1 booster shots for children 9 and younger that need them at this time. Once all children have received their first dose of vaccine, arrangements will be made to provide second doses to those that require them. Seasonal flu vaccine will not be available for this clinic.

Although there have been numerous cases of the swine flu in Scarborough, the Maine CDC recommends that children who may have already experienced a flu-like illness this season still be vaccinated. The VNA will not know what formulation of vaccine (intranasal or injectable) they will have available until the day of the clinic but based on the child’s age and health history they will administer the appropriate formulation and dose of vaccine.

There are two consent forms that parents need to fill out and bring with them. They have been posted on the town’s Web site at: http://www.scarborough.me.us. They will also be available in hard copy at the Public Safety Dispatch center at 246 Route 1.

For more information you may contact Scarborough Public Safety at 883-6361.
