BIDDEFORD — A Biddeford man was arrested Monday afternoon in connection with a stabbing that occurred Sunday night at the Park View Court apartment complex on outer Main Street.
In connection with the incident, Arien L’Italien, 20, of 6 Harrison Ave., Biddeford has been charged with elevated aggravated assault, a Class A felony, according to Police Chief Roger Beaupre.
A warrant was put out for L’Italien’s arrest when he was identified Sunday as a suspect in the alleged stabbing of Thomas Johnson, 26, of Pierson’s Lane, Biddeford.
The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday night at a Park View Court apartment. The exact address is not being released, said Beaupre, because the tenant was not involved in the altercation that led to the alleged stabbing.
“We’re still trying to piece it together,” Beaupre said Monday afternoon, saying that police do not know what initially caused the altercation. “It’s difficult to assess everything and people have not been immediately forthcoming with information.”
The influence of drugs or alcohol were not mentioned in the police report, he said.
After the incident, Johnson allegedly went to the Jaky’s convenience store across the street where he called an ambulance, said Beaupre, and was transported to Southern Maine Medical Center. His injuries were superficial, said Beaupre, and not life-threatening.
On Monday, the outer Main Street area was canvassed by police looking for L’Italien, who was spotted by Sgt. William Buhelt near the railroad tracks in the area of Western Ave. at 2 p.m. A foot chase ensued and L’Italien was apprehended, said Beaupre.
L’Italien already had a warrant out for his arrest, charging burglary and aggravated assault, in connection with a home invasion incident on May Street June 18.
Biddeford Police questioned L’Italien Monday afternoon and he has since been transferred to the York County Jail, said Beaupre.
