Lobster bake
More than 120 guests attended the 1st Annual Naples Grange Lobster Bake. The cooking was done the old-fashioned way – steamed over seaweed – and the results were delicious! The event was aimed at supporting Maine fishermen, farmers and community while raising funds for the Grange. Despite a rainy start, the organizers were pleased with the outcome and the outlook for this event. Entertainment provided by Mr. Tux of Naples rounded out the event nicely. Mark your calendars for next year, as this event is a keeper!
Other Grange events
The Naples Grange 94 will be hosting entertainment and refreshments at the Village Green on Aug. 2, Aug. 16 and Sept. 6 from 4-6 p.m. All are welcome, so come join in on the fun and get to know others in your community. Call Worthy Master Billi Burke at 693-5804 for more informaition.
Sunday concerts
The weather was gorgeous last Sunday night, making what I’m sure was a wonderful show with Doc’s Banjo Band even more enjoyable. These concerts at the Village Green in Naples are a great way to wind down and spend quality time with family and friends. This week brings country and blues music with the Paul and Ellen Duo. In August, look forward to hearing a variety of genres including country, gospel, pop and even German!
Causeway Bridge project
Regardless of which way you were leaning, the bridge issue has been somewhat settled: Naples has decided to work with the state on planning for a new, fixed bridge. Just recently I read that they were looking to form a committee of 15 individuals to help hash out the details. The committee was supposed to be chosen on July 17, in hopes, I would assume, of getting this project off the ground and on its way. If you were interested in getting on that committee, you can call Barbara at the Naples Town Office at 693-6364 to see if they still need anyone. My bet is that the popularity of this project has helped to fill the spots already, but you never know.
Another fair!
I truly love all the town fairs. Fried dough, fireworks, rides, and games – what’s not to love? The kids have so much fun, and that is priceless to me! This weekend don’t miss Casco Days, which runs from Thursday, July 23 to Sunday, July 26. The spirit of the town just shines through at this fair particularly. Our favorite attractions are the kiddie parade on Friday at 7 p.m. (just dress up and show up – preferably with lots of candy to throw to the crowd – and the Ferris wheel.

Bidding on the paddles can be done in person, over the phone (693-6841) or over the Internet via e-mail to the library’s director at director@naples.lib.me.us The auction is open from now until Aug. 8, when it closes promptly at 2 p.m. For more information, please contact the library at 693-6841.

Biker breakfast
Don’t forget this Saturday is the day of this monthly summer fundraising event. Biker and nonbikers are encouraged to stop by Naples Custom Motorsports on Route 302 and Kansas Road for a hearty breakfast of pancakes, sausages and coffee. Donations will be given to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Come nourish your stomach and your heart at this one! The event runs from 9-11 a.m.
