Kicks for Kids
Standish Recreation is now accepting registration forms for its fall soccer program. The program is open to children ages 4-12.
The program for ages 6-12 focuses on instruction and recreational play, with an element of competition being introduced at the higher ages. The preseason includes instructional clinics and team practice times, and a regular game schedule for all levels begins after Labor Day. All levels play at 5:30 p.m. on week nights or Saturday mornings at either Standish Memorial Park or Johnson Field.
The cost is $30 for the first child and $25 for each additional child. The fees for ages 6-12 include a team t-shirt and a medal or trophy. Registration is open until Aug. 7. Anyone wishing to register after that date will be charged an additional fee. Registrations forms are available at the Standish Town Hall.
Annie are you Ok?
WJZF community radio station is pleased to announce the addition of Annie and the Orphans to their format. Annie and the Orphans is a popular New England musical act out of Meredith, N.H. Specializing in 1950’s and 1960’s rock and roll, the Orphans have been performing locally for 40 years.
Started by Anatole “Annie” Paquette in 1964, the band has toured from Maine to Florida and are currently regular performers on The Mount Washington Cruise ship on Lake Winnipesaukee.
In an effort to support the people’s radio station WJZF, the Orphans invited the radio station to record their live performance at the Ossipee Valley Fair for replay on the station. The performance included a special tribute to the armed forces currently serving in Iraq and concluded with the audience joining the band for a group rendition of God Bless America.
