The 78-year-old man found floating in 3 or 4 feet of water on Little Sebago Lake around 3 p.m. Tuesday died of a heart attack, authorities say.
Berrie Hackett, who lived at 310 Westwood Drive in Gray, was found floating near Oak Drive in Gray.
A longtime companion told police Hackett had said he was going to row a small, aluminum boat to a nearby island to check on some property that had recently been damaged, according to a press release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. When Hackett failed to return, the companion went to check on him and found him floating in the water. Gray firefighters and medics couldn’t resuscitate him.
Officials with the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Wednesday he died of a heart attack.
