Veterans Job Fair
Windham’s Veterans Center graciously hosted 20 vendors and more than 50 veterans in a Friday event organized by Portland CareerCenter veterans staff Ricky Thornton and Don Verrill.
Veterans organizations represented were the hosting Windham Veterans Center, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10643; Department of Veteran Affairs; Maine National Guard; Operation Home Front; Maine Veterans Homes, and Maine’s Veterans Homeless Service.
Business/employer participants were General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Cianbro, State of Maine Department of Transportation, Maine Apprenticeship Program, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Portland Press Herald/MaineJobs, RE/MAX Allied, Nestle Water N.A., Manpower, Health Markets, Lee Auto Mall, Bonney Staffing, Dale Carnegie and CareerCenters from Bath and Portland offices.
The energy was spirited. Individuals had an opportunity to leave resumes and engage with potential employers while networking with comrades. Finger foods added to the conviviality of this 10 a.m.-2 p.m. event. Many of the attendees asked/hoped this would become an annual event.
Kudos to the vendors for participating in this market and special thanks to the veteran attendees for maintaining their enthusiasm and hope. Contact Don Swander, 892-1159, for more information or about usage of the Windham facility, located on Veterans Memorial Drive in North Windham.
