Scarborough voters on Tuesday approved a $35.1 million school budget that doesn’t increase the property tax rate.
A little more than 7 percent of the 14,837 registered voters voted with 620 voting to approve the budget and 459 voting against, said Town Clerk Tody Justice.
In an advisory question that asked if voters felt the budget was too high or too low, 304 voted too high and 525 voted too low.
Of the 1,098 voters who voted, 109 voted absentee. Some voters answered only one ballot question.
The total operating budget is at $54.1 million, a 0.9 percent increase from last year. The education portion of the budget is $35.1 million, an increase of 0.1 percent.
The tax rate of $12.15 per $1,000 of assessed value will stay the same.
