Falmouth’s Dillon Dresser was near perfect against Gray-New Gloucester on Monday.

Dresser had a perfect game going until the sixth inning at home until the Patriots (3-4) broke it up with a walk and a base hit and then ruined Dresser’s shutout in the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Yachtsmen held on to beat the Patriots 8-1.

After being held off the basepaths for the entire game, the Patriots finally got a baserunner in the top of the sixth when Trevor McCutcheon walked. Tyler Seliga got Gray-New Gloucester’s first hit with a long double to left, and after Ryan Barton walked, the Patriots, down 6-0 at the time, had the bases loaded. However, Dresser settled down and got Taylor Valente to hit a long fly out to center to end the threat.

After the Yachtsmen tacked on two runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Patriots finally got on the scoreboard themselves.

Joe Billings started things off with a single and moved to second on a throwing error. Tom Rich moved Billings over to third with a ground out and Billings scored the Patriots’ only run on a Ryan Blenk ground out.

Valente started on the mound for the Patriots and took the loss, pitching three innings, giving up five runs on eight hits.

The Patriots were scheduled to take on York at home on May 6 (after the Lakes Region Weekly’s deadline), they then will travel to Traip Academy on May 8 for a 4 p.m. start and will play at Poland on May 11, also a 4 p.m. start.
