Resort entices local residents
Point Sebago Resort in Casco is offering vacation discounts to Maine residents this year.
“We think Maine families would be surprised to find out how much fun a Point Sebago vacation can be,” said Don Toms, Point Sebago’s general manager.
In an effort to save local families from spending a fortune on travel this summer, Point Sebago is giving Maine families a 40 percent discount off the resort’s regular rates. These rates are offered on specific family-oriented theme weekends including Pirates Weekend (June 5 -7), Point Sebago’s Got Talent Weekend(June 12-14) and Red, White and Blues Festival weekend (June 19-21).
The vacation packages are all-inclusive and include lodging in a Park Home, access to Point Sebago’s 775 acres of resort amenities, children’s programs, daily entertainment and all other Point Sebago activities.

Roses for seniors
Graduation is fast approaching, and Bonny Eagle High School is giving parents, friends, and neighbors a chance to honor their favorite senior with roses. From now until May 29, roses may be purchased for $3 a piece and will be delivered to the graduating student at the Senior Last Assembly in June. Purchasers will also be able to write a special message to be delivered with the flowers. Softball anyone?
Standish Recreation is looking for participants for an adult softball team. This is a casual team meant for fun and enjoyment of the game. The season starts Tuesday, May 12, and ends Tuesday, June 30. All games will be played at the Steep Falls Ballfield on Boundary Road between the fire station and elementary school. Play will begin at 6 p.m. and end when nobody wants to play anymore or the sun is down. Players must bring their own glove; bats and balls will be provided. The cost to join the league is $15. Players must be 18 years old and registration is required. Players may register at Town Hall.
Performances
The Bonny Eagle High School Drama Club will be performing “Bang! Bang! You’re Dead!” a play about school violence, and its causes and effects, for all classes at Bonny Eagle during the school day Monday, May 18. Each performance will be followed by a group discussion on violence in school and how it can be prevented. The drama club will be performing this play free for the public on Tuesday, May 12.
The Schoolhouse Arts Center at Sebago Lake will present “Bugsy Malone Junior” May 8-10. This performance is directed by Keith Halliburton and features 20 area youths from the ages of 8-14 from seven southern Maine communities. The cast of youngsters play Prohibition-era mobsters in this tongue-in-cheek tribute to the 1920s gangster flick.
Performances of Bugsy Malone Junior are at the Schoolhouse Arts Center on Route 114, just north of the intersection of Routes 114 and 35, in Sebago Lake Village, on May 8 at 7 p.m., May 9 at 4:30 and 7 p.m., and May 10 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. Memory Lane Music Hall welcomes the Bruce Springsteen cover band No Surrender as well as the Guns ‘n Roses cover band Night Train. Cover is $8.
