The South Portland Red Riots softball team bounced back from a close 2-1 loss to Cheverus on April 29 to post consecutive wins over Bonny Eagle and McAuley to move to 3-1 on the season.
On May 1, the Riots took on Bonny Eagle at home and came away with a 6-4 win behind the pitching of Alexis Bogdanovich, who had 11 strikeouts in the complete game win.
Bogdanovich also contributed to the win with her bat, as she smashed an RBI triple to dead center field in the bottom of the third inning, scoring Stephanie Thibeault to give the Riots a 2-0 lead.
Danielle DiBiase had three hits for South Portland, including an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. Kaitlin Norton and Thibeault also had RBIs in the inning as the Riots pulled ahead 5-0.
The Scots got to Bogdanovich in the sixth, making the game close by scoring four runs on two long triples, but Bogdanovich eventually settled down and got two strikeouts to end the threat and secure the win for South Portland.
On May 4, the Riots moved to 3-1 on the season as they got a 7-0 road win over McAuley.
Lauren Tuttle took the mound for the Riots and posted the complete game victory, striking out 13 while only surrendering five hits.
The Riots big offensive explosion came in the top of the third inning as Bogdanovich blasted a three-run homer as part of a five-run inning. Norton added two hits (a single and a double) and had an RBI.
The Riots were scheduled to host Sanford on May 6, after the Current’s deadline. After the game with the Redskins, South Portland will travel to Kennebunk on May 8 for a 4 p.m. game and then will return home to face Deering on May 11 at 4 p.m.
