Kim Mathieu, director of the Gorham Middle School Band, helps her baritone player, Justin Reyes, get ready for their performance at the Maine Band Directors’ Association 2009 Concert Band Festival at Scarborough High School last week. The purpose of the non-competitive event, which attracted some 25 school bands from southern Maine, is to provide feedback that will benefit the students and directors and to stimulate student interest in concert band music.
