Tenants of a Windham office building ruined by fire last week have found new homes for their businesses, the building’s owner said Wednesday.
Fred Kinney of Cumberland Center said the businesses located in his building at 32 Tandberg Trail, known as Sebago Common, have all moved to new offices since a fire ripped through the building just after 7 p.m. Monday. The fire, which destroyed the building’s roof, was the result of an electrical short in the ceiling, Windham Fire Chief Charlie Hammond said.
“They found an electrical issue between the ceiling level and the roof, a short that caused the fire,” Hammond said.
The fire took just two-and-a-half hours to contain, and required the help of firefighters from Raymond, Gray, Standish, Westbrook and Gorham, said Deputy Chief John Wescott. They were alerted to the fire by a call from a neighbor, who saw smoke coming from the building.
Tenants at Sebago Common included Medical Reimbursement, which handles claims for many of the state’s emergency services providers; Great Expectations Developmental Preschool; and Southern Maine Speech and Language Services, a speech therapy service.
The owners of the various businesses could not be reached for comment, but workers from Medical Reimbursement were at Sebago Common Tuesday moving files to a new location.
Kinney said he hopes to rebuild Sebago Common in the same style, though with a modern roof.
“We’d like to keep it mostly the same as before. It was a nice looking building,” he said.
