NORTH YARMOUTH — Julie Angela (Watts) Skillings, 69, of North Yarmouth and Bonita Springs, Fla., died at her Maine home on Jan. 1, surrounded by her family after a battle with several cancers.
She was born on Oct. 2, 1939, in Barre, Vt., the daughter of Atea (BaiRossi) and Ralph Sheldon Watts.
She was educated in Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1957, and graduated from the University of Vermont School of Dental Hygiene in 1959.
She married James Andrew Skillings on June 12, 1959. They had four children.
Skillings was involved with the Junior League of Greater Portland, Gorham Garden Club, and the Royal River Sweet Adelines. While living in Bonita Springs, she was actively involved with the Highland Woods Golf Community and was president of the Homeowners Association.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting and quilting. She had a mathematical mind that served her well at duplicate bridge and other card games.
Nothing was more important to her than her family. She was a role model to her family in her moral strength, honesty and generosity. Always supportive, nonjudgmental and welcoming of everyone she met, she was a faithful friend to the end.
She was predeceased by her sister Barbara Boyce.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, James Skillings of North Yarmouth and Bonita Springs, Fla.; daughter Jodi Coffee and her husband Timothy of Windham; daughter Judi Hawkes and her husband Richard of Cumberland; son James Skillings and his wife Gina of North Yarmouth; son Donald Skillings and his wife Kathleen of Skowhegan; grandchildren Natasha, Joshua, Matthew, Christina, Richard, Olivia, Elizabeth, Jessica, Cameron, and Matthew; brother Loren Watts and his wife Peggy of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are 4-7 p.m., Jan. 9, at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. Memorial services are 11 a.m., Jan. 10, at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be June 12 in Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.
