TOPSHAM — Lawrence James Snipe, 61, died Dec. 25 at Togas VA Medical Center.
He was born in Bath on April 25, 1947, a son of J. Walter Snipe and E. Roberta (Snipe) Travis.
He served in the U. S. Army from 1966 to 1968 as a maintenance technician with the artillery battalion in Helbron, Germany.
He worked as an auto technician at the Cook’s Corner Sears. He lived in Virginia Beach, Va., for eight years where he was maintenance supervisor for a housing complex. He later returned to Maine and worked for Bodwell Motors.
He was a member of American Legion Memorial Post 202 of Topsham, prior member and chaplain of Smith-Tobey American Legion Post 21 of Bath, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, the water, and car shows. He was an adventurer and spent much time exploring the Maine mountains. He also had a love of the American bald eagle and had a collection of eagle items.
He had a happy, easy-going personality and cherished the experiences of living life more than collecting the material things of life. He was quick with a joke and always found the lighter side of a situation.
He is predeceased by two brothers, Walter G. Snipe who died in 1960 and Errol R. Snipe who died in 2008.
He is survived by a son, James L. Snipe of Lisbon; a daughter, Nicole A. Snipe of Topsham; a brother, Paul Travis and his wife Cheryl of Wiscasset; a sister, Margo O. Smith and her husband David of Bath; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Theresa King of Brunswick.
