BOWDOINHAM — Henry E. Lamoreau, 90, died Dec. 12 at the home of his daughter, Elaine Diaz, and granddaughter, Elisa Diaz.
He was born in Castle Hill on Dec. 4, 1918, a son of Gordon Lamoreau and Frances (Rideout) Lamoreau.
A 1938 honors graduate of Presque Isle High School, he attended Presque Isle Normal School and Bowdoin College.
On June 29, 1941, he married Adeline L. Park. For 61 years, they lived in the old Preble homestead in Bowdoinham, where they raised 10 children.
He served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany during World War II.
He worked as a riveter at Bath Iron Works, at local textile mills, in construction, and for the Maine Highway Department. He also provided for his family with hunting, fishing, farming and working in the woods.
As an amateur archeologist, naturalist and local historian, he contributed his knowledge and discoveries to the Maine State Museum and the Bowdoinham Historical Society. He was a lifetime member and past board member of the Maine Archeological Society. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Pythias and the Maine Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation.
He was predeceased by his wife, Adeline Park Lamoreau, his sisters Edna Lamoreau, Lucy Lamoreau, Margaret Nevells, and Marion Nesland, and brothers Robert Lamoreau, Malcom Lamoreau and Charles Lamoreau.
Survivors include sisters Elizabeth Lamoreau of Richmond and Lois Tapley of Stratford, Conn.; brother Herman “Mike” Lamoreau of Hudson; seven daughters, Elaine Diaz of Bowdoinham, Judith Marden and longtime companion Jonathon Lamson of Weld, Carol Clark and husband Roy of Alameda, Calif., Laurel Lamoreau and longtime companion James Desjardin of Richmond, Constance Jackson and longtime companion Bill Bridgham of Durham, Cynthia Lamoreau of Bowdoinham, and Sandra Tuck and husband Michael of Oakland; three sons, David Lamoreau and wife Diane of Lewiston, Michael Lamoreau and wife Betty of Manchester, and Malcolm Lamoreau and wife Marilyn of Livingston Manor, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held earlier this week.
Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, Brunswick.
