NORTH YARMOUTH — A Cumberland and Portland firefighter indicted this
month on charges of sexual abuse of minors was arrested again Saturday
after allegedly violating conditions of his release.
Cumberland police said Craig Rawnsley, 41, was arrested at his Browns
Way home on a warrant shortly after midnight on Saturday, Dec. 20.
Police would not disclose which bail conditions Rawnsley allegedly
violated.
Rawnsley was first arrested Oct. 6 after one of his alleged victims – a
teenage girl – went to Cumberland police. A second alleged victim came
forward during the investigation. Both girls were part of the town’s
Fire Explorer’s program, open to teenagers and young adults, ages 14 to
21, who are interested in public safety careers.
Rawnsley was on eight felony counts of sexual abuse of a minor and two
misdemeanor counts of unlawful sexual touching. He also faces
misdemeanor charges of assault and furnishing alcohol to a minor.
An indictment is not a finding of guilt, but rather a decision by a grand jury that there is enough evidence to prosecute.
Rawnley is scheduled to be in Cumberland County Superior Court in January, when he must enter a plea.
