Even with those losses, the Blazes, behind first-year coach Dunphe should have enough experience to make some noise come tournament time.

Season outlook:

Girls: “Our girls have a great team,” Barrows said. “We have a group of girls who really enjoy being in the water and also enjoy each other’s company. I hope to have the majority of our girls qualify for the state meet this year. Unfortunately, we have been bit by the injury bug and will be missing two key performers from last year’s team in Steph Lamson and Lauren Blais.”

Boys: “The boys will be extremely competitive this year. We can swim with anybody,” Barrows said. “Our numbers are the Achilles heel of the program. All of our swimmers have an opportunity to achieve a state qualifying time this year. The boys have great senior leadership. Kyle Goan emerged last year as one of the best swimmers in the state. He was a double winner last year at the state meet. This year he has set his goals even higher and really will be fun to watch.”

Sport: Wrestling

Key wrestlers: Zach Huggard (senior) 135 / 140; Andrew Drouin (junior) 189 /215; Harrison Strondak, (junior) 145 /152; Cole Larrivee (junior) 125 / 130; Glenn Emery (sophomore) 112 / 119

Key meets this season: Westbrook Invitational – Dec. 6, Southern Maine Classic Jan. 24, Western Maine Regional – Jan. 31, Class A state tournament – Feb. 7, SMAA dual meet tournament – Feb. 14

Season outlook: “We are still very young, with only one senior and 20 9th and 10th graders,” Hutchins said. “However, several of the younger wrestlers gained valuable experience at the varsity level last year, which will give the team a boost this season. Westbrook returns multiple state qualifiers in Drouin (second in state at 189), Strondak (third in state at 135) and Emery (qualifier at 103). These three, along with a solid core group of returners will help lead the young team through a competitive schedule. It should be an exciting season for us as we look to improve on last year’s results.”

Season outlook: Westbrook returns Rodrigue, Heath, and Caron who missed all of last season and will all be major contributors to the team’s success.
