Visitors to the Maine Mall can help a local child by taking a tag from the Salvation Army’s “Angel Tree” and fulfilling a wish.

The organization’s Portland Corps Angel Tree Program has set up a Christmas tree hung with tags expressing specific needs and desires of local underprivileged children. Donors – “Angels” – take a tag and buy the item requested. Salvation Army volunteers wrap and distribute the gifts.

“This is a great way for people in Portland to get personally involved at Christmas time,” says Captain Terry Shaffer.
