The Scarborough Public Library is supporting the national Teen Read Week by offering a series of events specifically for teens.

A new Teen Book Club, open to all Scarborough teens ages 13 and up, will meet at 1 p.m. at the Scarborough Public Library on early release Wednesdays.

Using interactive Web sites and the library’s Minerva catalog, teens will select books and initiate their own ideas for discussion and activities. The next gathering is on Oct. 8. Teens are welcome to pack a snack or bring a bag lunch.

A “drop in” party celebrating the Twilight Saga, the best-selling teen series by Stephenie Meyer, is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 4 -6 p.m. In keeping with this year’s Teen Read Week theme, “Books with Bite@ your Library,” teens will “bite” into tasty treats, test their knowledge of the Twilight Saga series with a trivia contest, and listen to music playlists based on themes found in each book. Prizes will include a commemorative Twilight Saga book set, T-shirts from the series and more.

For high school seniors trying to finish – or even start – their college application essays, the library is offering a free college essay workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 6 -8 p.m. The workshop will be conducted by Molly McGrath, program director for the nonprofit writing program, The Telling Room. McGrath is an editor and writer and former college guidance counselor for Waynflete School.

For more information, or to register for these teen events, visit www.library.scarborough.me.us, or call 883-4723 ext. 240. All events are free and open to the public.
