In the May 29 Current editorial endorsement for Charlie Summers, you stated that one of The Current’s reasons for endorsing Mr. Summers is because you like his “more moderate stances on social and economic issues making him a more attractive candidate.”
Webster defines “moderate” as, “of average or medium quality.”
When I go to the polls, I will not be voting for a candidate that is “of average or medium quality.” I do not think electing a candidate with “moderate stances on social and economic issues” is attractive and, in fact, I believe is the reason we face moral decay.
I will be looking for someone that isn’t afraid to say that killing unborn babies (abortion) is wrong. Pope Benedict XVI has called abortion “today’s greatest injustice.” I also want someone to tackle the issue of out-of-wedlock births. Despite Hollywood types thinking it’s in vogue to have children without marriage or a mother and father, we see a trend taking place that is 10 times greater than 50 years ago. A breakdown of the American family is a threat of epic proportion needing more than a moderate stance.
We need to welcome “legal” immigration with rules and regulations. My grandparents were immigrants to America. They learned English, raised families, worked hard and thought it shameful to live off government subsidy. I am looking for someone to dismantle the entitlement programs that were meant to be a temporary fix after the world wars. The Democrats love to tell us not to work, not to save money and not to get married because they have a social program to fix all of these problems for us. To favor the promiscuous use of government power and to pretend to solve every domestic challenge we have, is wrong. We have out-of-control government spending. Social Security and Medicare reports indicate that these systems are bankrupt and in the red by more than $50 trillion – several times our gross domestic product. This is more than a cash flow problem; this is a misuse of government. These issues are major threats that need more than a moderate stance.
I also want someone who is opposed to universal health care. Universal is just another name for socialization. Open trade across state lines will decrease the cost of health insurance for those that purchase their own.
In 1985, then President Reagan said, “I am convinced this is a nation under God. And as long as we recognize that and believe that, I think He’ll help us.” Because we have become a world without truth, freedom has lost its foundation. Our biggest problem is not the price of gas, the energy crisis or the supposedly threat of global warming. Our biggest problem is that we have lost our moral framework. We have dismissed any type of information from the classroom that would teach right from wrong. We are raising a generation that believes in non-truths. This is frightening.
Yes, this country needs reform from out-of-control spending, but the lack of moral values and plain old fashion common sense needs to be restored. I believe Republican Dean Scontras can help with these challenges. Please join me in voting for him on June 10.
