On Saturday, the Windham boys and girls swim teams squared off against Bonny Eagle, and the teams came away with a split, with the Windham girls winning their meet with the Scots took the boys meet.
The girls meet was a tightly contested affair with Windham coming out on top by a score of 48-38. Windham’s Jaci Lorenzen, Ali Wilkerson, Jess Merrill and Chloe Mack opened up the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay.
The Scots came back with wins in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, with the team of Molly Dicentes, Aisling McGrath, Keely Rothgaber, and Dani Wyman winning both events for the Scots.
In the individual events, Windham’s Kirstin Russell led the Eagles with victories in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, qualifying for the state meet in both events. Chloe Mack won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, also qualifying for the state championships in both events. Additionally, Kim Sundquist won the 100 butterfly and Ali Wilkerson won the 100 breaststroke for Windham.
For the Scots, Aisling McGrath paced the way for Bonny Eagle with victories in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke.
On the boys side, Bonny Eagle was able to win all three relays in the meet, with the team of Greg Judge, Keith Gorham, Neil Yarumian, and Greg Yum taking the 200 and 400 free while the team of Greg Judge, Decker Lenard, Neil Yarumian and Kyle St. Jean won the 200 IM for the Scots.
Greg Judge also picked up a victory while qualifying for the state meet in the 100 backstroke for Bonny Eagle. Also, Keith Gorham picked up a victory in the 100 freestyle for the Scots.
For Windham, Jake Shoberg won both the 200 free and 100 butterfly, both with state championship qualifying times. Nate Paluso took both the 50 and 500 free, and like Shoberg, Paluso qualified for the state championship. Bryndon Page was also a winner for the Eagles, taking first in the 100 breaststroke.
Windham is a second-year program, which has doubled the number of swimmers. To date, four of the six boys on the team have qualified for the state championship (Jake Shoberg, Nate Paluso, Lance Webster and Bryndon Page) and two girls have also qualified (Chloe Mack and Kirstin Russell).
