The following students from the Lakes Region were recently sworn in as members of the Maine Maritime Academy Regiment of Midshipmen at a ceremony held earlier this fall during the college’s annual family weekend. They are all members of the school’s Class of 2011.
The midshipman oath was administered to the 176 candidates by Capt. Jeff Loustaunau, commandant of midshipmen and port captain, marking the successful conclusion of Regimental Preparatory Training:
Midshipman Dylan Kluna, Standish
Kluna, a graduate of Bonny Eagle High School, is majoring in marine engineering operations.
Midshipman Alexander Truslow, Standish
Truslow, a graduate of Bonny Eagle High School is majoring in marine transportation operations.
Midshipman Brian Kane, Standish
Kane, a graduate of Bonny Eagle High School, is majoring in marine biology.
Midshipman Patrick Somma, Windham
Somma, a graduate of Cheverus High School, is majoring in international business and logistics.
Midshipman Keith Rickett, Casco
Rickett, a graduate of Lake Region High School, is majoring in Marine Engineering Technology.
Maine Maritime Academy, founded in 1941, enrolls more than 800 students from 35 states and several foreign countries. The college awards A.S., B.S. and M.S. degrees in 15 fields of study.
