Gorham Town Clerk Christina Silberman said burial fee increases in the town’s cemeteries go into effect on Thursday, Oct. 4.

The town council unanimously approved increases earlier this month. Full burial costs on a weekday rises from $350 to $550, a 57 percent hike. Interment on a weekend goes up from $450 to $550, representing a 22.2 percent increase. Cremation increases to $250 from $100 weekdays and $150 weekends.

The town council also approved a $25 processing fee for burials. Silberman said the fee would be used to improve cemetery records that are now recorded on index cards.

Gorham has 14 public cemeteries and associations manage three of those. In the cemeteries managed by the town, lots are available in West Gorham, Hillside and North Street cemeteries. The town clerk’s office can be contacted at 222-1670.
