Ongoing events:

• Lakes Region Farmer’s Market runs 8 a.m. to noon until Oct. 13. Rain or shine at Manchester Elementary School on Route 302 in North Windham.

• Steep Falls Public Library: Hours are Tuesday and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. To noon. A free story hour for toddlers and preschool children is held Wednesday at 10 a.m. Story hour is free and open to the public.

• Active Senior Citizens of Standish holds meetings the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 11 a.m. at the Steep Falls Fire Barn. Lunch is $3 and reservations are required before 9 a.m. the Monday prior to the meeting. To reserve a spot, call Alvida at 642-4929 or June at 727-6215.

• A Caregiver’s Support Group meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Bridgton Community Center from 1:30 to 3 p.m. This discussion group is sponsored by the Southern Maine Agency on Aging and the Alzheimer’s Association. • American Legion Standish Memorial Post 128 meets every second and fourth Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Kiwanis Beach Road Club House on Route 25 in Standish. All veterans, past and present, are welcome.

• The Windham Fire Department sponsors a child car seat inspection every third Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North Windham Fire Station. FMI 892-1912.

Aug. 17-19: The Schoolhouse Arts Center Youth Summer Shakespeare Program will present Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Julie” starting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. Schoolhouse is located on Route 114, just north of the intersection of Routes 114 and 35, in Sebago Lake Village. Aug. 18: Chicken Cook-Out at Friend’s Church (on Route 202 across from the Public Safety Building) starting at 4:30 p.m. and going until food runs out. Cost is $7 a plate which includes chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, roll, home made pie and drink. Sponsored by the Windham Land Trust.

Aug. 21: The Maine Kanteles, an ensemble playing American and Finnish tunes on the kantele, or Finnish lap-harp, will be performing at The Brick Church for the Performing Arts in Lovell Village at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21. Admission at the door $10. FMI 925-2792.

Aug. 25: A fundraiser to benefit the Walker family of Denmark, survivors of James Walker who was killed in Conway in July. The event will feature DJs, barbecue, live music and a raffle. It is scheduled to run from noon to midnight at the American Legion Post 46 on Tasker Hill Road in Conway. Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the door or in advance from the Legion post, the Army Barracks in Conway or T.D. Banknorth.

Aug. 27: Shed Happen’s Play Boat Raffle Drawing to benefit Windham Public Library. Tickets are 1 for $5; 3 for $10. Interested? Aug. 28: “The Book Group” will meet at 6:15 p.m. at the Windham Public Library. The selection for the month is any title by Barbara Kingsolver. Please join in for a lively discussion as the group celebrates the start of its fourth year.

Aug. 29: American Red Cross blood drive at Windham High School, 406 Gray Road, from noon to 6 p.m.

Sept. 3: A yard sale to benefit community radio station WJZF 97.1 FM in Standish will be held from 8 a.m. until most items have been sold, or dusk, on the grounds of the Tompson House at the intersection of routes 25 and 35. Donations are already coming in, so if you want to get rid of things you haven’t used, or things that collect dust, call station manager Dave Patterson at 642-7950 for more information. There is plenty of storage. All donations are tax-deductible.

Sept. 5-6: Schoolhouse Arts Center at Sebago Lake is holding auditions for the musical Little Women on Wednesday, September 5, and Thursday, Sept. 6, from 6-8 p.m. with callbacks on Saturday, Sept. 8, from noon to 4 p.m. Bring a Broadway song (with sheet music) to sing and be prepared to do cold readings from the script.
