An open letter to Gov. John Baldacci,
Where is the tax relief you promised to the people of Maine? Although I disagree with your politics, I have always believed you to be a man of integrity. Apparently that is not the case. If you truly wanted to provide relief then you would have done so, or at least presented a plan – a simple plan!
The people of Maine do not want any part of complicated plans or schemes that require an advanced math degree to figure out. Here is my plan! Cut the income and business tax rate in half over the next two budget cycles. Eliminate the “Use Tax” entirely. Freeze all fees at their current rate until they can all be reviewed for possible reduction. Make corresponding budget cuts to make up for the tax cuts. This is the type of plan we want.
If you can’t, or won’t, deliver tax relief then we will deliver it in our own way.
